The American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine has accepted an article authored by DiCaro, Coppo & Popcke associate Matthew Soskins for presentation at its 2010 annual conference. The article introduces and evaluates a novel education program in an academic hospice setting.
The program directly improves clinicians’ abilities and confidence as educators – a role often overlooked even in academic medicine settings. Clinicians attend classroom settings, receive one-on-one mentorship, and complete a research project, as part of the program. In addition to improvements in teaching ability, the authors expect improvements in clinician communication skills, which will directly benefit patients.
